If team success is achieved, then individual success will soon follow. This is certainly true with Ystradgynlais U11’s. Having earlier this month won the District Championship, nine of their players have now been selected for Afan Nedd Tawe district. Having nine players selected from one team is a remarkable achievement for Ystrad Junior section, their coaches, their team and most importantly, the players themselves. Having made the district squad, the next step for these players is Selection for The Nine Ystradgynlais players selected for Afan Nedd Tawe: - Cameron Miguel, Kingsley Jones, Alex Thomas, Ben Williams, Steffan Castle, Luc Caines, Joel Holmes, Ben Edwards, James Williams. |

Ystradgynlais RFC Juniors had a remarkable day last Sunday[1.3.09], when both the U10's and U11's won the Afan Nedd District Tournaments held at Banwen and Crynant respectfully.
In particular, the under 10's victory was an absolutely tremendous achievement. Their season to date a mixed bag, losing and winning games in equal measure. But the team were inspired into playing some awesome rugby, and peaked just at the right time to ensure a first District Championship for the team.
The u10's victory was a surprise, but the same could not be said about the u11's. Ted and Steve's team had shown great form all season, destroying opposition and scoring tries with ease as they built up to the District Tournament. And they didn't disappoint. Their most difficult game of the day was against Tonmawr in the pool stages of the competition, and when they reached the knockout stages they blew away the challenge of Glynneath in the semis and a combined Seven sisters / Crynant team in the Final.
A BIG pat on the back to both teams and all the players, coaches, managers and parents involved.
The BLUE REVOLUTION is well under way!
| Current Osprey flanker, Steve Tandy has very kindly accepted an offer from the "Junior Blues" to come up to Ystradgynlais and take a training session with the under 12's. Both Cen and myself are very grateful to Steve for giving up his time, and hopefully the squad and coaches can pick up some valuable tips from the newly capped Barbarian. The session will be held at the usual time of 5.30pm this Wednesday, but has been moved from the tic toc to the main field at Ystradgynlais RFC. All the "Junior Blues" coaches are welcome to attend. |
